Mobile Computer Labs
How to Use
Technology Services has 6 mobile computer labs available for use in CMA and CMB. They can turn any room into a computer lab for you. Each mobile lab contains 10 laptop computers with batteries and wireless internet connections. Three of the mobile labs have Dell PCs (30 total) and three mobile labs have Macintosh Powerbooks (30 total).
You can reserve as many mobile labs as you need to cover the number of students in your class. Please do not reserve more mobile labs than you need (ie: If you have less than 10 students reserve only 1 mobile lab. If you have less than 20 students only reserve 2, etc...) This will help to make as many of the labs available for as many classes as possible.
[Important note: The mobile labs always come as a set of 10 and are not broken up. Individual laptops or groups of laptops will not be taken out of the mobile labs and checked out separately from the rest of the laptops. So, even if you have a class of just 21 students you will need to reserve 30 laptops (3 mobile labs).]
We will deliver your mobile labs to your room. We will wait until the person who reserved the labs arrives (faculty, staff, graduate student). Do not leave the mobile labs unattended. We will come back to your room and bring the labs back when your class is over.
It is the responsibility of the person reserving the labs to take the laptops out of the carts and set them up and also to collect all the laptops and return them to their appropriate spots in the carts. Technology Services staff will not take out or put back laptops into the carts for you.
Logging in
If you are using the Dell laptops, the Windows XP login is labeled on the palm rest of the laptop.
If you are using the Mac laptop, they have the user name and password on the palm rest.
Batteries
The laptop batteries should last for 2 hours with normal use. If your class/seminar will last more than 2 hours let the us know. We can come to your room and supply your laptops with fresh batteries at a prearranged time. Continual wireless use will shorten battery life.
Wireless Internet use
To login to UT's wireless network, just open any internet browser and, when prompted, login using your UTEID.
[Important note: Make sure that when you are done with the laptop to click on "logout" in the small network connection browser window in the upper left corner of your screen. DO NOT JUST CLOSE THE BROWSER.]
