Receiving Your Scholarship Funds

Several offices must approve your scholarship from the College of Communication before it reaches your bank account. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Unfortunately, after your award leaves the College of Communication, the time it will take to deposit funds in your bank account is out of our hands.

1. College of Communication
If you have turned in your thank you letter and release, your funds will be set to release on the 13th class day of the semester, since this is the day after official enrollment is taken (release dates many be different for certain scholarships; check your Scholarship Management page for the exact dates for your award). Funds will leave the College of Communication overnight before moving to the next step.

2. Office of Student Financial Services
Once funds reach the Office of Student Financial Services, they are stopped from proceeding any further, whether you are receiving aid from their office or not. Processing at OSFS can take quite some time. Your financial aid counselor is notified that a scholarship has been posted to your record and then checks to see if your aid has already been adjusted (if needed) to include this scholarship. If it has, then they will let the funds proceed to the next stop. If they did not have any previous knowledge of this award they may adjust your aid at this point. This is why it is important to notify OSFS of your scholarship as early as possible.

3. Office of Accounting
After funds have been released by OSFS, they move to UT’s Office of Accounting. The accounting office will check to see if you have any past-due amounts or emergency/tuition loans owed to UT. If so, your scholarship will be applied toward this debt. Anything remaining will be sent to your account via Direct Deposit. Scholarship funds will not be applied to tuition and fee bills or housing bills unless the payment is past due and barred.

If you are receiving a scholarship from an organization that is not affiliated with UT, the process is quite similar. These organizations usually send your scholarship check directly to OSFS. They process it just like a UT scholarship, and then pass it along to accounting.
