Academic Advising
You should meet with your academic advisor at least once per semester to review your academic progress and receive important information and advice related to your studies and overall student experience. Schedule a planning session during the middle of the semester to avoid peak advising periods when advising time is in high demand due to registration.
There are several ways to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor:
2) Call the Office of Student Affairs at (512) 471-1553.
3) Stop by the Office of Student Affairs in CMA 4.140.
Log on to STAR for information on your advisor’s schedule and availability.
Please plan to be on time for your advising appointments, as the Office of Student Affairs enforces a ten-minute rule for scheduled appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule.
IM Advising
If you have a quick non-personal question for an advisor about your degree plan, you may contact your academic advisor through Instant Messaging. A non-personal question may not refer to any matter that may violate your privacy. For example, advisors cannot tell you what grade you made in a class, the amount of your financial bar or anything specific to your individual record.
Contact your academic advisor directly to request his or her AIM screen name and their schedule for IM advising.
IMPORTANT: Please note that general advising questions can be answered in person, over the phone, or via email or IM, but if your questions require access to your personal record, you will be asked to visit your academic advisor in person (FERPA rules are in place to safeguard your personal privacy).
