External Transfer Students

Students who would like to transfer into the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin from another institution should apply as an external transfer student. This processes is handled by the University’s Office of Admissions.

Information Sessions

We would like to encourage all prospective (Non-UT) freshmen and transfer students to attend one of our Information Sessions to learn more about our college.

Degrees Offered

The College has six highly ranked academic units leading to a Bachelor of Science in Advertising, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Communication Studies, Public Relations, and Radio-Television-Film and a Bachelor of Journalism in Journalism.

Degree Requirements

Scholarships

All scholarships available through the College of Communication are only available to students who are currently enrolled at the University of Texas. Please visit the Office of Student Financial Services for other scholarship opportunities. The deadline for their scholarship application is in December.

Placement test information

Instructional Assessment and Evaluation conducts placement exams and the Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation (GSP) and the Word Processing (WP) tests. All current Public Relations and Journalism majors must make appropriate scores on these before they are allowed to take J 315 News Media Writing and Editing. This course is usually taken in their sophomore year.

Transfer Equivalencies of coursework taken

The Automated Transfer Equivalency (ATE) system provides UT Austin transfer credit evaluations for courses commonly transferred from Texas colleges and universities.
