Department of Radio-Television-Film screens end-of-semester student films
Screenings take place Dec. 11-16
AUSTIN, Texas – Dec. 4, 2012 – The Department of Radio-Television-Film at The University of Texas at Austin invites the public to its end-of-semester student film screenings, Tuesday, Dec. 11 to Sunday, Dec. 16. The free screenings culminate on Sunday, Dec. 16, at the McCullough Theatre with graduate students' documentaries from 3–6 p.m. and graduate thesis films from 7–10 p.m. This semester's thesis filmmakers are: Rhituparna Basu, Russell Bush, Jaime Cano, Paavo Hanninen, Ivete Lucas, John Moore, Roy Rutngamlug, Ben Slamka, and Johanna Witherby. Light refreshments will be served from 6-7 p.m.

The fall semester screenings complement the Longhorn Film Showcase, which takes place in the spring and features a selection of award-winning student films. New to the event this year is "Digital Demo Day" on Thursday, Dec. 13, featuring a "digital arcade" in which the public can try out students' games, watch animation and FX demos, and play with interactive stories from 3-6 p.m. in UT's CMB Studio 4B.
Many students who have graduated from the Department of Radio-Television-Film have become internationally renowned filmmakers.
Recent graduates include Soham Mehta, who received a Student Academy Award for "Fatakra"; Susan Youssef, who won grand prizes at both the Cinema Novo Festival and the Dubai International Film Festival for "Habibi"; Heather Courtney, who won a 2012 Emmy for her documentary, "Where Soldiers Come From"; Kyle Henry, whose film, "Fourplay: Tampa," premiered at the Cannes Film Festival; Rachel Tsangari, whose film "Attenberg" was Greece's official entry for a foreign language Academy Award; and Bryan Poyser, whose feature "Lovers of Hate" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
