Austin political consultant named College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus
AUSTIN, Texas — April 1, 2008 — Austin-based corporate and political communication consultant David M. Weeks (BJ ’73) has been named the 2007-2008 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus.
“From mentoring individual students, to lecturing in the classroom, to serving on the college advisory council, David has supported the college and its mission at every level,” said Roderick P. Hart, dean of the College of Communication. “Professionally, David has personified the spirit of innovation that is the key to success in today’s rapidly evolving world of mass communication — something we hope to instill in our students.”
Weeks, who is founder and partner of Weeks&Co., has more than 35 years of experience in providing strategic and tactical communication counsel to Fortune 500 companies and has been a communications/media consultant to political campaigns ranging from city council to the United States Senate. Weeks&Co. also has offices in Nevada and Washington, D.C.
Weeks participates on the advisory committee to the Texas Legislative Conference and is a member of the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), often winning its National Pollie Award.
Weeks earned a bachelor of journalism degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He currently serves on the college’s advisory council and the council’s executive committee. A former gubernatorial press aide and speech writer, he frequently serves as a classroom guest lecturer, speaking on a variety of issues regarding strategic communication and its role in the political process.
He also serves on The University of Texas at Austin McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors and the Ex-Students Association of The University of Texas, the Texas Exes.
A native of Abilene, Texas, Weeks and his wife, Connie, live in Austin where they raised two children, McLaren and Elliott.
Weeks will be recognized during the College of Communication Honors Day Convocation at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12 at the Texas Union Ballroom.
The Outstanding Alumnus Award is given to a College of Communication graduate each year that has made outstanding contributions not only to their profession, but also to society as a whole.
