Latino Media Studies students to be recognized in commencement ceremony
AUSTIN, Texas – May 17, 2007 – Nine of the College of Communication students participating in tomorrow’s commencement ceremony will receive a special blue cord in recognition of earning certificates in the Latino Media Studies program.
This is the first time students in the program will be recognized in this way.
Fifty-five students are enrolled in the program, which is designed to introduce students to United States Latino and Latin American issues in media and communication, and to provide an opportunity to prepare for professional work related to these areas. The program was established in 1996 and is open to all undergraduate students in the College of Communication.
Completion of the program leads to a concentration in Latino Media Studies, which requires 12 semester hours of coursework in the Departments of Advertising and Radio-TV-Film, and the School of Journalism. Coursework consists of one lower-division course (Communication and Ethnic Groups) and three upper division elective courses.
In addition to receiving a blue cord and special recognition during commencement, students also will receive a Latino Media Studies Concentration certificate and may list this distinction throughout their professional career.
