Two College of Communication Alumni Named 2007 Outstanding Young Texas Exes

AUSTIN, Texas – April 16, 2007 – Radio-TV-Film alumnus John B. Moore, Jr., (B.S. ’90) and advertising alumna S. Gayle Stinson (B.S. ’91) have been named two of four Outstanding Young Texas Exes for 2007.

The Texas Exes inaugurated the award in 1980 to recognize young alumni who are distinguished in their fields and have demonstrated a continuing interest in The University of Texas and the Texas Exes. A recipient must be younger than 40 on January 1 of the year in which the award is presented.

John B. Moore, Jr., B.S. ’90, is a photojournalist for Getty Images, covering South Asia and the Middle East. He won the Pulitzer Prize in Photography in 2005 in the Breaking News category as part of a team of eleven Associated Press photographers covering the Iraq War.

Dennis McWilliams, B.S. ’93, is Chief Executive Officer of Apollo Endosurgery, Inc., a company that develops minimally invasive surgical equipment for the performance of natural-orifice surgery. He also serves on an advisory committee for UTMB’s Center for Technology Development.

Kristen Silverberg, J.D. ’96, serves as the Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs. Prior to this position, she served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Advisor to the White House Chief of Staff.

S. Gayle Stinson, B.S. ’91, is the Superintendent of the Atlanta Independent School District. Prior to taking this position, she served as the Assistant Superintendent for Campus Operations and School Improvement for the Texarkana Independent School District.
