AUSTIN, Texas – March 19, 2007 – Walt Disney Studios production executive Bruce Hendricks (B.S. ’76) has been named the 2006-2007 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus.
Hendricks, who serves as president of physical production for Walt Disney Studios, will be recognized during the College of Communication Honors Day Convocation at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 23 at the Texas Union Ballroom.
“The College of Communication takes great pride in what Bruce has accomplished,” said Dr. Roderick P. Hart, dean of the college. “His success reminds our faculty each day why they do what they do for a living.”
With a filmmaking career spanning more than 25 years, Hendricks has been involved in the production of some of the most prestigious and top-grossing films in motion picture history, including the hugely successful “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy, which he executive produced.
As president of physical production for Walt Disney Studios, Hendricks oversees all aspects of live action feature film production for the company. Since assuming the position in 1992, Hendricks has worked on more than 200 motion pictures, including the blockbusters “The Sixth Sense,” “Armageddon” and “Pearl Harbor.”
He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Producers Guild and the Directors Guild of America. While still in his 20s, he received an Emmy Award for his work on the ABC telefilm “The Wave.”
Hendricks earned a bachelor of science degree in film production from the University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife Christine live in Los Angeles with their daughter Kyra.
The Outstanding Alumnus Award is given to a College of Communication graduate each year that has made outstanding contributions not only to their profession, but also to society as a whole.
