Vince Young Longhorn Jersey Hung in College of Communication to Commemorate Advertising and Sports Marketing Scholarship
AUSTIN, Texas – Dec. 7, 2006 – The Longhorn number 10 football jersey worn by former University of Texas football player Vince Young, who helped lead the Longhorns to win the 2005 Football National Championship, was hung in the College of Communication Burson Conference Room today during a ceremony to commemorate the NetSpend/Vince Young Scholarship in Sports Advertising and Public Relations.
In April, Young announced his endorsement agreement with Austin, Texas-based NetSpend Corporation, a marketer and processor of prepaid debit cards. As part of that announcement, Young, along with NetSpend CEO Rick Savard and founders Roy and Bertrand Sosa, presented the College of Communication with a giant $10,000 NetSpend All-Access debit card – rather than the traditional jumbo check – to establish an advertising and sports marketing scholarship fund.
Savard was at the ceremony along with Jeff Hunt (BJ ’84), CEO & president of GCI Group in Austin, and Julian Read of GCI Read-Poland - Austin – both of whom were instrumental in establishing the partnership between NetSpend and Young and the College of Communication.
The jersey will hang on the north wall of the Burson Conference room on the fourth floor of communication building, which is used by students, faculty and staff throughout the college.
