Lecturer named university educator of the year
AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 31, 2006 – Randy Cox, a senior lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Communication has been named “University Educator of the Year” by the Texas Speech Communication Association.
The annual award recognizes excellence in teaching by someone with significant service to the Texas Speech Communication Association.
Cox has coached the University of Texas at Austin Forensic Union Individual Events Team − which has won six national titles in the past three years and is currently ranked second in the U.S. − since 2000. He teaches undergraduate courses teaching persuasion and influence, as well as the forensics workshop, which directly supports the individual events team.
A Longhorn on every level, Cox earned his master’s degree from the Department of Communication Studies in 1994 and his bachelor’s degree in Plan II Honors in 1991.
The award was presented at the annual Texas Speech Communication Association convention in Amarillo earlier this month.
