Historian John Sugden speaks on April 27
Historian John Sugden will present "Sport, Conflict Resolution and Peace Building in Deeply Divided Societies: Between Idealism & Fatalism."
Sugden will speak about sport-related interventions that have contributed to peace processes across the world. He will draw upon his experience as director of Football 4 Peace International, which uses soccer to create a space of dialogue and understanding between young Palestinians and Israelis.
A professor at the University of Brighton in England, Sugden is the author of "Fifa and Contest for World Football" (with Alan Tomlinson), "Boxing and Society" and "Scum Airways: Inside Football's Underground Economy."
The presentation is hosted by the College of Communication's Texas Program in Sports and Media, the School of Law's Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution, the College of Liberal Arts' Department of Sociology and the University of Texas Project on Conflict Resolution.
