Explore UT: The Biggest Open House in Texas, March 7

Event: Explore UT, the biggest open house in Texas, will host thousands of Texans from every corner of the state as they examine the rich and varied programs that are a part of everyday life on this campus.

Programs are free and open to the public. No registration is required. A full schedule of events is available online.

When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m., March 7, 2009

Where: The University of Texas at Austin campus

Background: More than 30,000 visitors are expected to participate in a day of free hands-on activities, performances, demonstrations and lectures. With more than 300 programs offered for visitors of all ages, there is something of interest for everyone. College of Communication activities include:

The latest techniques used by professional film composers. Music and Radio-Television-Film Professor Bruce Pennycook will illustrate aspects of timing, instrumentation and audio mixing of musical materials for a short film clip.

Lights, Camera, Action: Shooting a TV Drama
Watch Radio-Television-Film students on a "live set" as they rehearse and film a television drama in a three-camera format.

Opportunities in Communication Sciences and Disorders
Explore disciplines of audiology and speech-language pathology, innovative treatment options for people with communicative disorders and professional, educational and career opportunities, and get information on innovative teaching and research.

Live at 10: You Deliver the News
This demonstration includes a tour of the TV studio and control room used in the School of Journalism. News copy will be available to read on the teleprompter. Bring a VHS tape to record your on-camera appearance and take it home with you.
