Woman’s Day Editor to Address College of Communication Graduates, Dec. 6

Event: Woman’s Day Editor in Chief and College of Communication alumna Jane Chesnutt (BJ ‘73) will deliver the College of Communication fall 2008 convocation address.

When: noon, Dec. 6, 2008

Where: The Frank Erwin Center. A map is available online.

Background: In addition to serving as editor in chief of Woman’s Day since 1991, Chesnutt has served as senior vice president of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. since 2002.

Under her leadership, Woman’s Day has developed continuing collaborations between the magazine and various associations, most notably the American Heart Association, the American Library Association, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the Armed Services YMCA.

Chesnutt’s particular passion is women’s heart health. In 1999, several years before any major organization or publication took on this cause in a significant way, Woman’s Day adopted women’s heart health as its mission, publishing several articles a year and helping to push the issue onto the national agenda. Earlier this year she added mental health to the list of Woman’s Day’s initiatives, through a special program called “Mental Health Matters” designed to help raise awareness of brain disorders and the toll they take.

She earned her degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin where she worked on The Daily Texan during her senior year, serving as features editor her last semester. A full bio on Chesnutt is available online.
