Background: In an era of globalization, study abroad is no longer optional. International experience and language skills are increasingly valuable to employers in today’s global economy. In response, students are studying abroad in growing numbers. During the past decade, the number of U.S. students studying abroad each year has more than doubled. The University of Texas at Austin ranks third in the nation in the number of study abroad participants. More information about College of Communication international programs is available online.
Maymester Abroad courses are four and one-half week study abroad programs that take place immediately following the spring semester at an international course location. Maymester Abroad courses are intensive three or four credit hour courses taught by University of Texas at Austin faculty members for in-residence credit. Maymester Abroad courses are factored into the student’s GPA. Maymester courses are part of spring registration, although they begin after the spring exam period and conclude prior to the second summer session.
