Background: The SPICE program is an intensive summer study abroad program in Erfurt, Germany, offered through The University of Texas at Austin College of Communication and the University of Erfurt Department for Media and Communication.
The program includes three courses, generally co-taught by U.S. and German faculty on the campus of the University of Erfurt, and a 6-day visit to Berlin featuring company and site visits.
The University of Erfurt was recently ranked among the top three media and communication studies departments within Germany. The department's emphasis on small group teaching, personal contact and innovative teaching methods is reflected in the summer program.
In an era of globalization, study abroad is no longer optional. International experience and language skills are increasingly valuable to employers in today’s global economy. In response, students are studying abroad in growing numbers. During the past decade, the number of U.S. students studying abroad each year has more than doubled. The University of Texas at Austin ranks third in the nation in the number of study abroad participants.
The College of Communication also offers study abroad programs in Austria, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Singapore and Spain. Additional information about the study abroad programs can be found online.
