Event: Scholars from around the country will convene at The University of Texas at Austin to share cutting-edge research on the public understanding of science, media coverage of science topics and the rhetoric of science.
The conference is being hosted Assistant Professor LeeAnn Kahlor and Professor Patricia Stout, in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations.

Background: Scholars from more than a dozen universities will present research around four general themes: “Merging Science Communication Theory and Practice”; “Affect, Trust, Hostility and the Media”; “Characterization and Meaning-Making in Science”; and “Science Communication Education.”
Sharon Dunwoody, professor of journalism and mass communication and associate dean of social studies for the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin, will deliver the keynote speech “Building a Context for the Next Century of Science Communication Research” at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.
“New Agendas in Science Communication” is the third in a series of 10 “New Agendas” conferences to be sponsored by the College of Communication over the next three to five years. Each of the 10 conferences will culminate in a volume of research edited by College of Communication faculty members and published by Lawrence Erlbaum/Taylor & Francis Publishers.
