Rhetoric scholar to address “The Presidency and the Power of Words”

Event: Professor Karlyn Kohrs Campbell, chairperson of the Department of Communications Studies at the University of Minnesota and a distinguished scholar of rhetoric and public address, will discuss “The Presidency and the Power of Words.”

Background: Campbell is a major voice in the field of rhetorical studies. She pioneered the rhetorical study of U.S. feminism from the suffrage movement through the second wave. She has written on matters of race, gender, class, power and agency. Among her books are “The Rhetorical Act” (with Susan Huxman), “Man Cannot Speak for Her” (two volumes), “Critiques of Contemporary Rhetoric” (with Thomas Burkholder) and “The Interplay of Influence” (with Kathleen Hall Jamieson).
