“Virtuous Circle of News Media Use and Civic Engagement: Reality or Reification?”

Professor Jack McLeod to Deliver Lecture, Receive Danielson Award

Event: Dr. Jack McLeod, Professor Emeritus in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will receive the Wayne A. Danielson Award for Distinguished Contributions to Communication Scholarship. In conjunction with the award presentation, he will give a lecture titled, “Virtuous Circle of News Media Use and Civic Engagement: Reality or Reification?” The lecture is free and open to the public.

When: 2-3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2006

Background: Dr. McLeod is a Professor Emeritus in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has taught all over the world including the University of Glasgow in Scotland, the University of Leeds in England, and the Institute for Journalism and Mass Communication in Germany. He has received numerous honors including the Murray Edelman award from the American Political Science Association and the Paul Deutschmann Career Research award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

The Wayne A. Danielson Award recognizes scholars who have made a significant contribution to the understanding of communication. This contribution may stem from new ideas that have important implications for the field or a particular area of study. The contribution also may be viewed as the cumulative impact of a person’s scholarly career.
