Craigslist.com Founder Speaks to University of Texas Journalism Class via Video

Event: A live video conference featuring Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist.com will speak about his successful company and his recent advocacy of citizen journalism. He will take questions from the audience following his presentation.

This video conference takes place as part of the School of Journalism’s “Covering Technology and Innovation” class and is free and open to the public.

    When: 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006

Where: The Lady Bird Johnson room in the College of Communication (CMA 5.160).

Background: Craigslist.com is a centralized network of online urban communities, featuring free classified advertisements (with jobs, housing, personals, for sale/barter/wanted, services, community, gigs and resumes categories) and forums sorted by various topics.

Craigslist.com, which runs its network with a San Francisco-based staff of less than 50 people, was charged by “The Economist” recently as having “probably done more than anything (else) to destroy newspapers’ income.”
