Smith, Cuban Reflect on Independent Film Industry in University of Texas Master Class

What: Independent film gurus Kevin Smith ("Clerks") and Mark Cuban (2929 Entertainment) share their experiences on breaking into the independent film industry and how the industry is evolving in relation to new technology. Smith and Cuban's comments were recorded earlier this spring as part of the Master Class series in the Department of Radio-Television-Film at The University of Texas at Austin.

Background: The Master Class in the Department of Radio-Television-Film is a semester-long interactive seminar that brings students in contact with artists and professionals in the film industry. The spring 2006 Master Class was taught by Department of RTF lecturer John Pierson, who also is a well-known independent film representative, having played many pivotal roles in bringing the work of first-time filmmakers like Spike Lee, Michael Moore, Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater to the screen,
KUT's "The Best of Public Radio," which airs at 11 a.m. every Sunday, brings listeners independently produced stories and features that cover the world in a different and entertaining way.
