Senior Fellows Honors Program

The Honors Program for the College of Communication

Senior Fellows is an invitation to excellence.

Participants have distinguished themselves in their studies at The University and are invited to join a program during their junior and senior year. The program outlined here will not meet every student's needs, but we think it will be attractive if you are interested in a special intellectual challenge.

About the Program

The Senior Fellows Program is a College-wide honors program in which you are invited to take special communication coursework your junior and senior year. It is a broad, interdisciplinary supplement to the various departmental majors in the College of Communication. The Program is designed for students with the talent and interest to go beyond the usual undergraduate experience. If you enjoy original thinking, hard work and interesting reading, you may want to find out more. During your tenure as Senior Fellow, you would take four special classes (12 hours) and also participate in a variety of enrichment activities. In short, the Senior Fellows Program is an exceptional opportunity for exceptional students.

How does the Program work?

Senior Fellows enroll in seminars taught by specially chosen members of the faculty in the College of Communication. You are selected for the Program during the spring semester and begin your coursework during the following fall semester. The seminars offered change from year-to-year and are listed as special sections of COM 370 (Advanced Study in Communication).

These courses differ from traditional undergraduate classes in several ways:

Is the Senior Fellows Program a separate major?

No. All students in the Program carry a regular major in one of the departments of the College of Communication. In most cases, you would substitute the 12 hours of Senior Fellows courses for upper-division electives. Alternatively, courses taken as part of the Program can fulfill the six-hour "College of Communication" requirement that is part of all departmental majors in the College.
