The U.S. Latino and Latin American Media Studies concentration is subject to all the academic rules of the University and the College of Communication, including the following:
• The Concentration is open to all College of Communication undergraduate students regardless of major.
• The Concentration requires twelve hours of coursework, nine of which must be upper-division.
• Students must meet the minimum College of Communication course prerequisites for each concentration course before enrolling. College prerequisites include:
a) A 2.25 cumulative GPA is required to take upper-division Communication courses.
b) All courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis and have no grade less than a “C.”
• The College will approve the increase in maximum number of communication hours (which varies according to degree program) to accommodate courses that are taken as part of the concentration. Students must be enrolled in the program, and complete the concentration requirements to ensure that all concentration coursework will count toward their degree.
• Concentration courses may be applied as communication courses within major, outside of major, or as electives. In some cases, participants may need to request course pre-requisite waivers to enroll in concentration courses. To request a course prerequisite waiver, students must see the academic advisor for the program.
• Courses cross-listed with approved concentration courses in the College of Communication may count toward the concentration only with approval of the academic advisor for the program.
• Students seeking to complete the concentration should consult with the academic advisor for the program in the Office of Student Affairs (CMA 4.140).
