While you are enrolled at The University, you CANNOT attend another institution except under certain circumstances. Concurrent enrollment applies to correspondence courses, courses taken at another university or junior college, and courses from the UT Division of Continuing Education (i.e. extension, distance education).
We will allow you to enroll concurrently as long as you are enrolled fulltime here at UT (12 hours fall/spring; 9 hours summer), as long as this will not be the semester in which you graduate and as long as you get prior approval from an advisor in the Office of Student Affairs.
NOTE: If you drop below fulltime status at UT anytime during the semester, we will NOT count any course you take concurrently.
1. Discuss your educational plan with your academic advisor PRIOR to requesting concurrent enrollment.
2. You must be enrolled in and complete at least 9 hours in residence during the summer semester at UT or at least 12 hours in residence during the fall/spring semester at UT (UT Extension, UT Distance Learning, UT Correspondence, and /or another educational institution are considered out of residence coursework).
3. You are responsible for determining that the courses completed concurrently will meet the transfer requirement of UT and fulfill the degree requirement or course for which it is intended. In other words, verify the UT equivalent of any transfer course you take at another school.
4. Be aware that:
• A minimum of 24 of the last 30 hours must be in residence (UT Extension, UT Distance Learning, UT Correspondence, and courses taken at another institution do not count toward this requirement).
• Although particular courses may satisfy UT Admissions transfer equivalencies, the experience of students, faculty, and advisors shows that some transferred courses may not be of equal substance and rigor and may not give the foundation necessary for future coursework at UT.
• UT Extension, UT Correspondence, Online ( UT Distance Learning) coursework will count toward the UT GPA; transfer courses from other educational institutions will not count toward your UT GPA.
• If you take a course concurrently at another educational institution, you must request from that institution that an official transcript be sent to the UT Office of Admissions. Only courses with grades of "C" or better will transfer and, if concurrent enrollment has been approved, will be counted toward a degree at UT; P/F (pass/fail) grades will only count toward electives.
5. WARNING: Communication courses (ADV, COM, CSD, CMS, J, PR, and RTF) taken through UT Extension, Online (UT Distance Learning) or UT Correspondence will not count toward a College of Communication undergraduate degree.
6. You must complete coursework by the end of the semester in which you have petitioned for concurrent enrollment.
7. Concurrent enrollment taken through UT Extension, Online (UT Distance Learning), UT Correspondence, and/or another educational institution is not allowed during the same semester a Communication student applies for graduation.
