Internal Transfer FAQ

1. Can I submit material to supplement the online application?

You are required to submit a résumé with your application. It should be emailed as an attachment (MS Word or PDF) to commresume@austin.utexas.edu. The document should be titled in the following format: Last Name, First Name EID

We do not accept supplemental materials such as DVDs, CDs, photos, portfolios or letters of recommendation.

2. Can I apply to Advertising or Public Relations before I complete ADV 318J?

Yes. To be considered for transfer to Advertising or Public Relations, you must be currently enrolled in ADV 318J or have already passed the course with a B or better.

3. What GPA do I need to have in order to be accepted into the College of Communication?

There is no set GPA beyond the minimum required for eligibility. The stronger your GPA is, the better your chances of being accepted into your desired major. However, the Committee does consider several factors besides your academic performance.

It varies each semester and by major, and depends on the number of students the College graduates.

6. When are decisions made and what is my next step?

The College of Communication Internal Transfer Committee makes all decisions, which are final. All applications will be reviewed once the University posts your final grades for the semester. Email notifications of the decisions will be sent out shortly thereafter.
