The exchange program with the University of Tampere is one of out of approximately 200 “Reciprocal Exchange” programs at The University of Texas at Austin. These programs allow UT students to study at the various foreign institutions with which we have formal agreements, and in turn allow overseas students to study at UT. Generally, UT students take regular university courses with students from their host country.
The University of Tampere is a public, research-oriented university with over 15,000 students. Areas of study include: Economics and Administration, Education, Humanities, Medicine, Information Sciences and Social Sciences. Many classes are taught in English. The university has an active exchange student population.

The program is open to all graduate and undergraduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. Undergraduate students must have an overall UT-Austin GPA of 3.0 and have at least 60 completed credit hours by the semester of participation.
Many course options in Communication exist, across several academic departments. The following links provide information on some of the options that are available:

All courses are considered in-residence by The University of Texas. Grades earned during the program will compute into the UT GPA. Students are expected to register for a full-time equivalent course load, though credit hours earned will vary by the class (not all are 3 hour courses). Courses taken abroad must be matched to a specific UT course in order for work to be credited on a student’s official transcript. All participants are encouraged to obtain the necessary approval from their academic advisors prior to their departure.
Program participants are guaranteed dorm housing provided that the necessary forms are submitted by the University of Tampere deadline. Two different housing plans are available. Students can either have a private bedroom and bathroom and share a kitchen with other students on their floor, or have a private bedroom and share bath and kitchen facilities with three to four other students. Internet access is available on campus but is limited in the dorms. Many cafes and restaurants are available on or near campus, and students have access to kitchens in the dorm.

Students may use any federal, state, or institutional aid they would normally be awarded by the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS), excluding work-study, to help pay for overseas program costs. Financial aid awards can also be recalculated to cover increased costs associated with study abroad. Additionally, most private scholarships are applicable to study abroad - however, students must confirm that with the donor. Likewise, there are many scholarships specific for study abroad.
