This interactive budget calculator is provided by the CGEO to give you a general idea of how much studying abroad is going to cost.
Students may receive aid for study abroad programs if the program is approved through the UT Austin Center for Global Educational Opportunities (CGEO). College of Communication Programs are approved programs. If interested in going abroad and receiving financial aid for your program, a FAFSA should be completed for the appropriate semester. In order to receive your aid on time, you should apply at least three to four months prior to your expected date of departure, or earlier if you also want financial aid for other semesters during the academic year.
Questions regarding financial aid should be directed to your CGEO Study Abroad Advisor. Students not currently using financial aid who are interested in applying for it are encouraged to do so. See http://finaid.utexas.edu/process/sab.html
Various scholarships are specifically designated for international study through the CGEO. In addition to the information provided online, the CGEO also has a number of print resources (directories of funding for study abroad) students may review in their office. For information on scholarships and budgeting for your study abroad courses, please contact your study abroad advisor in the CGEO or visit: http://www.utexas.edu/student/abroad/funding/index.html
The College of Communication and each of its five departments offer a number of scholarships for undergraduate students. Although they are not identified as such, some of these awards may help defray some of the costs associated with study abroad opportunities. Research the list of awards administered through the Office of Student Affairs, and through each of the academic departments to students in their major. The application processes and deadlines vary and can sometimes be as early as a year in advance, so early planning is highly recommended.
The Office of Student Affairs has compiled an external funding list that College of Communication students can use to find scholarships from various outside sources. For more information on these scholarships, please contact the organization directly, as this information is provided as a service to Communication students.
If you notice any errors or would like to add a scholarship to this list, please contact the OSA Scholarship Coordinator, Lauren Brown.
In addition, The University of Texas Libraries has an online resource that you may find useful to learn about external funding options.
