Our services are designed to help students explore their career options and prepare to start their careers, and to assist students and alumni in managing their careers over the course of their lives.

Our core services include career planning and job search advising; graduate and professional school advising; and job search skills development support and assistance. We also gather and distribute information regarding job and internship opportunities; and offer career exploration programs, career fairs, on-campus interviewing opportunities and resume referral services.

Communication Career Services is a member of the National Association of Colleges & Employers and the Southern Association of Colleges & Employers.

Meet the Staff

Debbie Kubena, Manager & Pre-Law Advisor

Debbie Kubena serves as Manager of Communication Career Services at UT Austin. Prior to becoming Manager, she was Assistant Director (since March 2000) of Communication Career Services. She has been the Pre-Law Advisor since 2004.

Debbie leads the CCS team, provides career advising and pre-law advising to students and alumni, and manages our Career Development Grant program. She is also our Chief Morale Officer. Prior to joining the CCS staff, she was an Assistant Director for UT Natural Sciences Career Services and the Assistant Director for the Career Resources Center at St. Edward's University. Additionally, Debbie was an off-site supervisor for two campuses at Austin Community College. Debbie has over seventeen years experience in the field of career services. She has also conducted extensive research in business, social, and dining etiquette and has been conducting etiquette workshops and dinners since 1995. She earned her BA and MA from St. Edward's University in Austin.

Interesting Fact: Debbie has three passions: dogs, recycling, and Halloween. She also celebrates "Talk Like a Pirate Day" every September 19th.

Julia Dow, Recruiting Services Coordinator

Julia graduated from Texas State University with a BA in Communication Studies and minor in Business. She worked in On-Campus Recruiting for Career Services at Texas State, where she worked for four years. Julia then went on to work in retail management, where she had the opportunity to be on a Campus Team to recruit for internships and full-time positions. She also served as an Intern Coach to select interns during their summer internship. She is excited to join the Communication Career Services team and return to employer relations.

Interesting Fact: Julia grew up in El Paso, Texas, and sometimes "Spanglish" slips into her vocabulary. She likes to eat her dessert before her meal to make sure she always has room for it.

Monica Jackson, Career Advisor

 Monica graduated from Ashford University with a BA in Mass Communication and Journalism and is currently pursuing her MS in Higher Education. Monica has over thirteen years with the Air Force Reserves where she has worked as a Production Recruiter and a Career Advisor. She has extensive experience with career planning, resume writing, interviewing skills and public speaking. She also had the opportunity to work in sports radio as an Account Executive and is excited to make this transition working in Higher Education where she can serve the needs of our students, alumni and the community.

Interesting Fact: Monica is an avid sports junkie and loves anything and everything about football and basketball and hopes to write sports articles one day. As a treat, she likes to eat the chocolate covering off peanut M&M’s first and then eat the peanut.

Jennifer Hinojosa, Administrative Services Coordinator

Jennifer graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a BA in Communication Studies.  She has worked for the last ten years in retail management as a customer service manager and hiring coordinator.  Some of her job responsibilities included organizing job fairs, preparing workers for leaderships programs, and acting as an onsite human resources representative.  She is excited to join the University of Texas at Austin community as part of the Career Services Team, and looks forward to working on a one-on-one basis with students and staff.

Interesting Fact:  Jennifer enjoys playing Wednesday night trivia.  She is the go-to member on her team, “The Dead Squirrels,” in the Movie and Music categories.
